Powerfitness began as a one on one appointment based service business in 1997.Along the way we have added a variety of trainers and services to suit the variety of demands that we encounter. James

James Tantau

Excercise Physiologist

 

After completing his degree in Exercise Science at the University of Ballarat, he completed a post graduate in Exercise Physiology ( re-habilitation ) and is a member of the ESSA ( exercise sports sciences Australia )

James specializes in pre-hab and post operative re-hab and is intent on educating the client on the bio-mechanical and anatomical aspects of their treatment.

James is a great trainer and great guy. He is always there to motivate me during our sessions when I need it and tailors each session to meet my current goals. He has also written programs for me to follow when I train by myself to help keep me on the right path.

 

I have a chronic physical condition which James takes into account each session insuring we don't do anything that might aggravates my condition. In addition to our training sessions, James has been able to help me overcome years of muscle tightness and strain related to me condition thanks to his training in therapeutic massage.

Early this year I started sessions with James Tantau, the EP at Power fitness. I have always exercised, but had been unable to swim or do gym work, due to chronic shoulder pain. I was despairing I would never swim laps again, and James reassured me it would happen.

 

He provided a targeted gym routine and specific daily exercises for my shoulder and general core fitness. I have been doing 1500 m swims regularly now for many months with no niggles.


I still have to do my daily prescribed shoulder exercises for a few minutes, which is easy, as I am so happy to swim again.
I am now in a routine at the gym and appreciate the encouragement the whole team provide.

When I started seeing James Tantau at Power Fitness, I had been diagnosed with diabetes after being stressed and obese for 10 years. I was told to increase muscle as part of overcoming my issues, but had injured myself at previous gyms, and disliked exercising. I could not walk up stairs without my knees giving way and felt years older than 55. I was very fearful of any exercise.

 

Using the specialty training of an EP has been crucial in targeting problems and preventing injury. I found James offered humor, insight and skill during the specific program he prescribed. He understood both the limits on my body and my mind and worked so patiently and confidently, that I quickly began to look forward to my sessions and get some hope I could change my health and fitness.

 

It's been a year now and I have made steady progress with all my health issues. My HbA1C reading has gone from "poorly controlled" diabetes to bordering on "well controlled", I have been able to stop antidepressants, and can now run up stairs, bike ride and carry my grandchildren. It still amazes me. It is now part of my routine, which l never imagined possible.

 

James knows when my body can be pushed and when it needs to take a break. I work hard for 50 minutes twice a week, I'm red faced, puffing and sweating madly, but the team at the gym always make me feel like a champion. Thanks, Liz Shrimpton.

    There are male and female shower and change room facilities.

    We will do our best to reschedule your appointment in the same week, otherwise it can be made up at a time convenient to both client and trainer.
